Pledging commodities to a bank, often using a warehouse receipt as proof of ownership, has become a popular way of obtaining finance in China, often to skirt restrictions on raising credit and helping drive up stockpiles at some ports.Ĭoncerns over the events in Qingdao may push foreign banks to cut their commodity financing business in China, Goldman Sachs said in a note on June 9. Sleeping Dogs catapults players into the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, tasked with taking down one of the worlds most fearsome criminal organisations from the inside the Hong Kong Triads. ![]() Sleeping Dogs is a gritty and visceral open-world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong.Fans of games like Grand Theft Auto or Hong Kong action movies will no doubt find this game an enjoyable blend between the two worlds. Sleeping Dogs is an extraordinarily fun –- but graphic –- interactive drama. Story sequences are entertaining to watch, with well-written dialogue, memorable characters, and competent voice acting (in both English and Cantonese, with subtitles). While the character animations are a little stiff, the virtual Hong Kong looks fantastic, be it the neon-lit streets (reflecting off wet pavement), bustling markets in Kowloon or jumping between rooftops, across docks, or tearing down busy roads while in pursuit of someone. Again, take heed to the game's "Mature" warning, but these imaginative and cinematic finishing moves will make you wince and laugh at the same time. You can also use the environment to inflict major harm (such as smashing baddie through a payphone). Early on in the game you'll learn how to punch and kick, perform chained combo moves, block and counterattack, and even grab a baddie by the lapel to toss him in to others. The martial arts fighting is the best part, even when taking on more than ten enemies at one time - Bruce Lee-style. Show moreįor mature players who like gritty action games, Sleeping Dogs it's a blast. Played from a third-person perspective, you'll experience many dozens of intense shoot-outs, escort missions, and engage in dramatic car and foot chases –- but there's a lot more hand-to-hand combat in Sleeping Dogs, as you might expect from a Hong Kong cinema-inspired action game. Similar to games like Grand Theft Auto, this is an "open-world" game that lets you venture anywhere you like, take on side missions for people, and use money collected to customize the look of your character. but returns to Hong Kong to work with the authorities, in part to avenge his sister's murder. Without giving much away, you learn Shen spent some time in the U.S. At the start of the gritty game, the tattooed hero starts performing odd jobs for seedy types to win their trust, but as you dive deeper into the underworld you'll take on tougher tasks –- some which challenge your resolve and question your motives. Influenced by Asian action flicks, SLEEPING DOGS introduces you to Wei Shen, an undercover cop who infiltrates one of the world's most infamous criminal organizations: the Hong Kong Triads. I might understand a 16-year-old maybe being ok, but not younger kids. The tenor of the game is just too much for kids. Side missions encourage more shooting, running over people with your car, stealing cars, hacking cameras around the city, and general lawlessness. If I recall correctly, the language (while a wonderfully immersive mix of Cantonese and English) is peppered with swear words. You also take a few women on dates, and while the sex is implied rather than shown, it's there. The main missions involve much punching, kicking, shooting and death, and one mission thread involves freeing women being sold into sex slavery. Spoilers: The main character is an undercover cop, trying to bring down organized crime in Hong Kong. But I wouldn't let my tweens even watch me play this, much less play it themselves. ![]() So if you're an adult - get it and enjoy it. It's like a Grand Theft Auto set in Hong Kong and mostly with fists instead of guns (still guns, but less frequent). ![]() “The techniques we’re using in this paper are very standard in image recognition, which is a disturbing thought,” says Vitaly Shmatikov, one of the authors from Cornell Tech. Instead, the team found that mainstream machine learning methods-the process of “training” a computer with a set of example data rather than programming it-lend themselves readily to this type of attack. And they didn’t even need to painstakingly develop extensive new image uncloaking methodologies to do it. Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin and Cornell Tech say that they’ve trained a piece of software that can undermine the privacy benefits of standard content-masking techniques like blurring and pixelation by learning to read or see what’s meant to be hidden in images-anything from a blurred house number to a pixelated human face in the background of a photo. As computer vision becomes increasingly robust, it’s starting to see things we can’t. The problem, however, is that humans aren’t the only image recognition masters around anymore. The technique is nothing fancy, but it has worked well enough, because people can’t see or read through the distortion. Blurred chunks of text or obscured faces and license plates show up on the news, in redacted documents, and online. ![]() Also how, in the end, the innocent soldiers were the ones who pay for the crimes that their teammates commit whether physically (Salazar) or psychologically (McCoy).Pixelation has long been a familiar fig leaf to cover our visual media’s most private parts. Another true and clever thing about the movie were the videos posted on the internet whether for the insurgents, soldiers' wives, or the people who oppose such disgraceful crimes. And you don't need De Palma or the Fox news to tell you that!! May be it is true that they might not know a lot about Iraq, but what makes you think that you know better than them about Iraq?!!. But does that mean that they are right? they are both wrong!! All the movie did is that it put the reality of what is going on in Iraq in to cinema cause not all people follow the news or know which media to be trusted moreover, it didn't say that those stories or characters are true or ever existed. Like most of the people who support the American army there and consider every Iraqi or Muslim a terrorist or "desert nig**r" or "rag head", most of the Iraqis and Muslims consider every troop a thief, raper, and occupier who is after money, oil and damaging or destroying Islam. Something that has been successfully shown and well presented in that movie. You can tell from the look whether that soldier is a good or a bad one. Also the psychological pressure that most of those soldiers are under has been made clear in this movie as well as, the negativity, hostility and racism of some soldiers. If you are an Iraqi who understands English, you can understand what the American soldiers mumble or yell about every time an Iraqi approaches them. And choosing Sammara rather than any other province or city was so wise since the pressure and threat that the soldiers are under there is not the same for soldiers who are in rather safer areas like the Northern part of Iraq. The combination of bad and good soldiers is so true. ![]() It is not about elections and politics!! it is about hundreds of people getting killed daily by different groups whether Al-Qaeda, the militias, death squads, or the coalition forces themselves!! The movie was so touching in every single aspect for an Iraqi who had lived there and witnessed the war. You don't need to know anything to be human!! and to stop killing, supporting, or covering for the killing of the innocents. And it is really frustrating to hear those voices picking holes in De Palma's movie and accusing him of being biased or not knowing how the army operates or.or. I am not an American who is in favour of certain political wing or party. First of all I am an Iraqi who witnessed everything that happened since the first moment the war took place. I would give this movie 10 stars for the courage that the producers had shown to reveal the truth about was going on there in Iraq.
